Eight districts depend on the Tungabhadra Reservoir's water, vital for their survival. Unfortunately, the dam's diminishing capacity and environmental issues have led to unmet water needs, causing widespread discontent and uncertainty for millions.
The Karnataka and central governments have allocated significant funds for the Upper Bhadra project, yet the urgent needs of Tungabhadra’s farming communities remain unaddressed. Act now!
The Tungabhadra Dam, crucial for numerous communities, faces a critical loss of 30 TMC in storage due to silt accumulation, threatening regional agriculture and economic stability. Immediate sediment management and action are essential. Compounding the issue, the degradation of the Western Ghats ecosystem and pollution along the river worsen sedimentation and disrupt water flows, necessitating comprehensive environmental interventions.
Climatic shifts threaten to destabilize traditional farming cycles and compromise the availability of drinking water, posing a significant risk to food security and public health. Proactive measures, including the development of climate-resilient agricultural practices and the enhancement of water conservation techniques, are imperative to mitigate these impacts. The Tungabhadra Dam region is increasingly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change, with global warming and shifting rainfall patterns disrupting essential water supplies for agriculture and consumption.
Despite the Karnataka government allocating ₹22,000 crores and the central government providing ₹5,500 crores for the Upper Bhadra project, the plight of farmers in the Tungabhadra region continues to be overlooked by both state and central authorities. Funds are being granted for creating new ayacut but no action or funds to stabilize the existing ayacut of tungabhadra dam. This is missing logic & creating dissatisfaction.
We aim for the efficient and planned use of water resources for the designated command area under the Tungabhadra Dam to support sustainable agricultural and living practices.
Preserving the Tungabhadra River ecosystem to fulfill the water requirements of residents and farmers, honoring its centuries-old service since the Vijayanagar Empire.
Stabilizing the command area (Ayacut) of the Tungabhadra Dam through the establishment of a balancing reservoir, ensuring water security for the region.
Constructed between 1945 and 1954, the Tungabhadra Dam emerged from the vision of British official Arthur Cotton in 1850. The dam, with a storied history, now faces neglect, threatening its existence and the livelihoods of those dependent on it.

Here’s what you can do to show your support
Initiatives to significantly reduce pollution in the Tungabhadra River. Our upcoming efforts will focus on community awareness campaigns, collaboration with local industries, and the enforcement of stricter pollution controls to ensure a sustainable and clean water source for future generations.
Our planned sediment management strategy will deploy advanced removal technologies and improve watershed management practices. These initiatives are designed to decrease siltation, maintain the dam’s storage capacity, and secure a reliable water supply for multiple uses.
Implement conservation measures aimed at protecting the unique and fragile ecosystems surrounding the Tungabhadra. Our prospective projects include habitat restoration, anti-poaching operations, and educational programs to safeguard these natural environments for the enjoyment and benefit of future generations
Initiate a comprehensive plantation drive in the Tungabhadra’s catchment area. This future project will involve planting native trees and vegetation to stabilize soil, prevent erosion, and enhance local biodiversity, thereby improving the ecological health of the watershed.
